Garub Island

GARUH ISLAND

Garuh Island lies northeast of Ras Al-Zoor and Umm Al-Maradim Island. It is the furthest Kuwaiti island off shore; the nearest point to it is Ras Al-Zoor which is at a distance of 37.5 kilometres. Garuh is the smallest southern Kuwaiti island; its diameter varies between 275 and 175 metres. Not high enough to be seen at a great distance, its surface is flat and free from natural obstacles and elevations. To guide sailors and fishermen, the island is provided with various facilities and landmarks such as Al-Manara tower, which is 15 metres high, plus a wireless post and a police station.

Garuh is a sedimentary island located in shallow waters. In the shallow gulf bed, a coral reef is formed which appears clearly from the sky as a circle surrounding the island.

The island is uninhabited except for some policemen. Natural life is limited on the island
